She is a deaf dance artist born in Japan and now based in London. She trained at the Laban in London before completing a M.A. at Yokohama National University. She also received a B.A. in Japanese Painting. She has been involved in a number of dance projects including creating and presenting dance performances and workshops in over 35 locations in 15 countries. She was a formal member of CandoCo Dance Company from 2003 to 2006. She showed her first choreography ‘SCOT’ at The Place in London in 2007. She was commissioned to enter her second work, ‘Canon for Duet’ in The Place Prize 2008, sponsored by Bloomberg. This piece also was shown at Firsts 2008 at the Royal Opera House 2 in 2008. In 2009. She presented her third work, ‘BEATS’ as part of the British East Asian Choreographers Development Scheme. In further developing ‘BEATS’, she presented ‘NEW BEATS’ as her fourth work at Stepping East. In 2009, she toured with ‘VIBRAGERA’ (Sweden). She was involved in ‘Against the Tide’ (Greenwich + Docklands International Festival 2009, Milton Keynes International Festival 2010, Watch This Space Festival 2010 at National Theatre, London) and ‘the Garden’(Greenwich + Docklands International Festival 2010) as a performer on a sway pole. And she choreographed ‘4D’ and ‘2L’ in Cambodia in 2009 which showcased at SPOTLIGHT, Cambodia in 2009 and ROAM Dance Festival, Cambodia and Liberty Festival 2010, London. She had also explored voice-movement improvisation with Guy Dartnell. |
